Performance and Value
2015 HEALTHSTRONG Hospital
HGB was named as one of the nation’s 2015 HEALTHSTRONG Hospitals by iVantage Health Analytics. iVantage evaluates hospitals according to its Hospital Strength INDEX, a broad performance scorecard based on 56 metrics, including quality, outcomes, patient perspective, affordability and efficiency. The study measured 4,334 hospitals, including 1,300 Critical Access Hospitals – rural community hospitals that receive cost-based reimbursement from Medicare. Nationally, 572 hospitals were named as HEALTHSTRONG, including 26 in Michigan. HGB was one of three Critical Access Hospitals that made the list in Michigan.
iVantage has been ranking hospitals since 2011. This is the third time HGB was named to its list of top ranking Critical Access Hospitals. According to iVantage, a leading advisory and business analytic services company, its “2014 Rural Relevance under Healthcare Reform Study reveals that rural hospitals have achieved a significant level of comparative performance, including demonstrated quality, patient satisfaction and operational efficiency for the type of care most relevant to rural communities.”
PRC Excellence in Healthcare Awards
HGB’s Capital Area Surgeons, as well as Todd Otten, M.D., and Julie Coenen, N.P., with HGB Family Care Specialists, and Tony Marl, D.O., with Charlotte Medical Group, were all recently recognized with Excellence in Healthcare Engagement Awards by Professional Research Consultants (PRC).
PRC’s national engagement awards recognize “Excellence in Healthcare” achieved in the prior year. This year’s awards recognize physicians and practices that score in the top 10 percent of PRC’s national database for patient visits in 2014. HGB’s general surgery practice, Capital Area Surgeons, includes Mark Jones, D.O.; Jeff Deppen, D.O.; and Troy Ferguson, D.O. The practiced received PRC’s 5-Star Award based on its overall composite for outpatient clinical services. This composite score is determined by “top box scores” earned for four core dimensions: timely care, provider communications, overall provider rating and courteous/helpful office staff.
Additionally three individual HGB clinical providers were also recognized by PRC:
• Dr. Todd Otten received a 5-Star Award based on his “Overall Doctor Rating” for family and general practice services.
• Dr. Tony Marl received a 5-Star Award based on his “Overall Doctor Rating” for internal medicine services.
• Nurse Practitioner Julie Coenen received a 5-Star Award based on her “Overall Provider Rating” for mid-level services.
